AI in ecommerce and D2C: the vendors selling to brands and retailers
If you run an online store, every layer of it now has an AI vendor pitching you: the search box, the product photos, the email, the WhatsApp chat, the price, the fraud check. Most of these vendors are not new companies. They are established commerce software firms rebuilding their products around AI, and several changed owner or name this year.
This piece covers the vendors, not the stores. We checked 34 companies against their own websites, and pricing pages where published, on 25 and 26 September 2026, and profile 30 of them here, grouped by the job each one does.
The short version
- The work splits into five jobs: search and merchandising, product content and imagery, marketing and retention, conversational commerce, and pricing, planning and fraud.
- "Agentic" is the new headline. Six of the vendors we checked put the word in the main headline of their homepage: Algolia, Salsify, Akeneo, Insider One, Netcore.ai and MoEngage.
- You pay on your own scale. These vendors price on the merchant's numbers: search requests, orders, active profiles, SKUs, sales volume or images, more often than on seats.
- Ownership is moving. Insider One acquired Bluecore, MoEngage acquired Aampe, Anaplan acquired Syrup Tech, Klevu became part of Athos Commerce, and Cinven has agreed to acquire Salsify.
Search and merchandising
These vendors run the search box, the category pages and the recommendations, and sell mostly to enterprise retailers.
Algolia leads with "Agentic. Generative. Search" and sells search and discovery to enterprises. Constructor strikes through "search engine" in its headline and replaces it with "reasoning engine powering commerce discovery". Bloomreach sells personalization and marketing, and its homepage currently leads with AI for email, "AI That Converts Email Sends Into Revenue". Coveo sells "AI-Search & Conversational Discovery built for enterprise ROI". Nosto sells "AI personalization for customer journeys that convert". Netcore Unbxd, from Netcore, which holds a majority stake, sells search, merchandising and personalization for enterprise ecommerce.
Athos Commerce is new. Searchspring announced a combination with Klevu in January 2025, and klevu.com now reads "Klevu is now Athos Commerce", uniting Searchspring, Klevu and Intelligent Reach.
Product content and imagery
These vendors manage product information and make the images that sell it.
Salsify sells product experience management to brands selling through retailers, under the headline "Win the Agentic Commerce Era with Intelligent PXM". In July 2026 the private equity firm Cinven announced that it had agreed to acquire Salsify; we found no announcement that the deal has completed. Akeneo sells product information management that is "Agentic by design. Driven by governance." Hypotenuse AI calls itself "the system of intelligence behind ecommerce product information".
On imagery, Photoroom sells an image editing API to marketplaces and brands alongside its app. Claid.ai generates product and fashion photos. Botika sells AI fashion models to fashion brands. Flair.ai calls itself "the AI design tool for product photoshoots".
Marketing and retention
These vendors own the email, SMS and app messages that bring customers back.
Klaviyo calls itself "THE AUTONOMOUS B2C CRM", an AI marketing and service platform for consumer brands, and in August 2026 reached an agreement to acquire the team and technology of Agency, an AI customer success company. Insider One is the new name for Insider since December 2025, and sells "the only self-improving agentic customer engagement system". Bluecore, which sells retail personalization to retailers and D2C brands, was acquired by Insider One on 13 May 2026. Rebuy sells personalization and upsell tools to Shopify brands. Netcore.ai, renamed from Netcore Cloud in July 2026, leads its homepage with an "Agentic Marketing platform". MoEngage calls itself "The Agentic Customer Engagement Platform", and in June 2026 announced the acquisition of Aampe; aampe.com now links to MoEngage's privacy policy and terms. WebEngage, headquartered in Mumbai, calls itself "The new frontier in Marketing" and sells six products built on one customer record.
Conversational commerce
These vendors sell on the chat channels customers already use, WhatsApp above all.
Manifest AI sells "AI Agents to Automate Support & Marketing" to online stores on Shopify, WooCommerce and BigCommerce. Zoko sells "WhatsApp built for Shopify stores." Gupshup sells conversational AI agents to brands, including retailers. Interakt, whose site carries the copyright of Jio Haptik Technologies, sells a WhatsApp and Instagram platform to businesses across a range of industries. Shopify itself includes Sidekick, an AI assistant inside the Shopify admin, with its plans, though features and usage limits vary by plan. Support agents built for ecommerce, such as Gorgias and Siena, are in our AI customer support landscape.
Pricing, planning and fraud
The least visible job and often the one closest to margin.
Intelligence Node, whose site now reads "an Omnicom Company", sells competitor pricing and product analytics to brands and retailers. Flieber calls itself "the AI operations platform modern commerce runs on", with two products, Flieber Inventory and Flieber Studio. Syrup Tech, which sold AI forecasting and allocation to retailers, is now part of Anaplan, which announced the acquisition in September 2025; syrup.tech now redirects to Anaplan. Prisync sells competitor price tracking to merchants. Signifyd and Riskified sell fraud protection to ecommerce businesses, with Riskified leading on "AI fraud prevention fueling ecommerce success".
What to ask before you buy
- What does it cost at twice your volume? When pricing follows your orders, profiles or SKUs, a good year raises the bill. Ask for the price at your next stage of growth.
- Who owns this vendor now? Several changed hands or names in the last year, and two deals here are announced but not completed.
- What does "agentic" mean in this product? Ask what the agent does on its own, what it needs approval for, and how you switch it off.
- Does it work with the rest of your stack? Search, content, messaging and support vendors all want to own the customer profile. Ask which one is the source of truth.
If you sell one of these products, expect these questions in the first reply.
How we did this
We checked 34 companies against their own websites, and pricing pages where published, on 25 and 26 September 2026, and profile 30 of them here, described the way each describes itself. Syrup Tech appears as part of Anaplan, and Shopify's Sidekick as a feature of the Shopify platform. We left out Vue.ai, whose homepage now presents it as horizontal enterprise AI rather than a commerce product, and Pebblely, which sells to individual creatives rather than to brands. Where we quote a page title or meta description rather than visible copy, we describe rather than quote. Deals come from the companies' own announcements and sites, and we report each as announced or completed exactly as those sources state. The list covers the vendors we examined, not the whole market.
If something here is out of date or wrong about your company, tell us and we will correct it with the source.
